Visitor Reflections from YSP

It was an immense privilege to be able to share my work in the Both Gallery at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and have so many wonderful conversations with a wide spectrum of people. It has fed Into my ongoing thinking about my project. This week, instead of hearing from me, here is some transcribed feedback from visitors in the comments book.

  • “Loved it, thank you. A lot of care and detailed work has clearly gone into this. It’s beautiful and I hope you feel a great sense of achievement from this work. I wasn’t expecting to ‘see’ my experience spinal injury and nerve damage in such beautiful forms. It made me very emotional. Thank you.”

“Really excited to see the finished work in situ. Excited to see how it reacts to the environment, gets sodden, messy and covered in leaf mulch and bugs!”

“Really lovely to see the work within the space, and relating it to practice, research and landscape. It was especially good to see each of the constituent parts/materials which will go towards the eventual piece and centering it within YSP. It’s a really nice use of the space, especially alongside the Kentridge exhibition, which feels like it offers more insight into studio practice and access points. Thank you!”

“Thoughtful and interactive – good to see the thought process and working out of a piece before completion. Great to be able to chat and question. Thank you.”

“Such an interesting body of work. It’s really engaging to see the artist’s process and their research, as it helps to appreciate the final piece of work behind the concept. Lovely 😊”

“I love that things that shouldn’t be together – working together – create something now that coexists. How long for and why etc..”

“I particularly like the idea of revisiting the finished piece in 5 years time in this place, somewhere as yet unknown. Seeing how nature reclaims it and contributes to the art. It’s a great idea.”

“What a treat to see the process and in such detail, to meet the artist and have conversations – lucky insight! Thank you 😊”
